SUNY Broome Recieves More Funds from the County
9/16/2013 (Updated 11:01:23 PM)When County Executive Debbie Preston released the details of next year's proposed budget on Wednesday, it contained good news for SUNY Broome.
For he first time in three years, the county will increase funding to the community college. Since the start of the recession , SUNY Broome is down about 20 administrative positions. The school will use the 137 thousand dollars in additional funding to replace two of those jobs: academic adviser and education pipeline expert.
"We're in a very labor intensive industry, in spite of all the advances made in technology and we do a lot of that, our distance learning is growing very fast, but there's only so much of that you can do as a community college and this will help us do a better job. In fact, our enrollment is also growing again, so basically, we need all the help we can get," said Dr. Kevin Drumm, president of SUNY Broome.
State aid to SUNY Broome has increased each of the last two years.
