Former School Building Re-Opens as Community Center

The Nanticoke Valley Historical Society hosted a "Snack and Dessert Cabaret" in the Town of Maine, Sunday.
The program marked the 1st public event held in the J. Ralph Ingalls building since its community-wide renovation this Spring. The building was formally a school but will now be used as a community center.

People from the area say it felt great to be back in the building they once shared many memories in.

"This is one that really the town, really fell in love with and they did not want to see it go to the hands of someone else. So we're very fortunate to have a gentleman who took over and has founded the whole project. We had a lot of volunteers this summer and in the past years," said Jim Tokos, member of September Sound.

"It's very nostalgic. I went to school here. I lived down the street. I grew up one street away. We've wanted to put a show on here forever, and it's just great to have it back in our hands and ready to keep moving forward. We've got years ahead of us, but its a start," said Hilary Squier, musical director.

Nearly a hundred people attended the event.
Maine's "September Sounds" group preformed to the theme of "Where Everybody Knows Your Name," along with other famous show tune hits.
