BU Volleyball has extra fire for 2013

VESTAL -- They were arguably the best Bearcats women's squad last season, winning the America East Conference Tournament: the volleyball team.

Head Coach Glenn Kiriyama leads a team bringing in just a handful of new faces, who both he and the returning players say are fitting into their roles quite nicely.

The expectations are remain high for 2013. Despite their success in 2012, in a close vote the Bearcats were named preseason #2 in the America East behind last year's regular season champ Albany. For BU, they don't feel disrespected in any way; rather, they see this as an extra challenge.

Kiriyama says, "Being defending champions, we know we've got our work cut out for us and it's gonna be a tough fight in conference. But now that we've got the experience of that under our belts, I think it'll give them the incentive to want to get back there."

"It doesn't really matter what we start as. It's how we finish. It's just a little extra fire under us now and we're just ready to do it again," adds junior setter Amanda Dettmann.

The season starts Friday, August 30 at the Colgate Tournament. Conference play begins September 29.
