CHICAGO -- Alex Rodriguez was suspended for 211 games on Monday, with that suspension set to begin on Thursday.
The Yankees third baseman, who had missed all of the 2013 season after hip surgery, plans to appeal his case. In the meantime, A-Rod is eligible to play and was activated from the Yankees disabled list in time for Monday night's series opener in Chicago.
In his first at-bat, A-Rod hit a single.
