BU's Bump named ECAC First Team All Star
7/3/2013 (Updated 11:02:56 PM)VESTAL, N.Y. The accolades keep pouring in for junior softball second baseman Jessica Bump.
One week after being tabbed the America East Conferences Softball Scholar-Athlete for the recently-completed academic year, she has been named an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) First-Team All-Star for the 2013 season.
The ECAC consists of over 300 schools across all three NCAA Division levels. Its membership includes colleges and universities from Maine to North Carolina.
Jessica definitely deserves this honor, head coach Michelle Burrell said. She was very consistent for us this year and just had a really great presence on the field. She has improved each year because of the amount of work and effort she puts into practice. She also has improved mentally on how she approaches the game.
Bump was the catalyst in a breakthrough season for Binghamton. She finished the year ranked fifth in the America East Conference in batting (.349), second with 10 home runs and fourth with 36 RBI. She also led the conference with 46 runs, five triples, a .476 on-base percentage and a .671 slugging percentage.
With a 30-17 record, Binghamton posted its highest win total since 1995 and was the host school for the America East Tournament. Bump was named first-team all-conference and was also selected to the America East All-Academic squad.
Bump is the third Binghamton softball player to earn ECAC All-Star honors during the programs 12-year NCAA Division I era. Deannie Plemon was a second-team selection in 2010 and Jessica Phillips was named to the first team the following year.
