Assembly, Senate Debating Women's Equality Act

In this last week of the legislative session, Governor Cuomo's 10 point Woman's Equality Act has been divided into 10 separate bills.

The tenth point proposes changes to the States abortion law, making it consistent with Roe v. Wade and current federal law.

Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo says the Assembly would like to see the Woman's Equality Act passed as one legislation

"The Assembly is inclined right now to vote for the whole package, as a whole, the entire thing in one vote. So, we'll have to see what happens. We're a little reluctant to take up individual matters that we have already passed much stronger versions of," said Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo.

"The Assembly is playing a few games with us and saying that it's going to do all ten together.  You know, that's not really right or fair.  I think if we could agree on nine of ten points then I think the respectable thing to do as a legislature is nine out of ten of them," said Senator Tom Libous.

Other points of the Woman's Equality Agenda include achieving pay equity and stopping sexual harassment in the workplace.
