OFA Adds Two To Wall of Fame

It's a night to remember those who dedicate their lives to service and giving back to the community.

On Wednesday, the Owego-Apalachin school board inducted two former Owego Free Academy graduates to the Wall of Fame that hangs in the high school hallway.

1961 grad George Truesdail and 1997 grad Matthew Porcari were added to the wall on Wednesday.  Porcari was a volunteer firefighter who lost his life fighting a blaze in January.  Porcari's uncle says Matt joined the volunteer fire company when he was 16 and he hopes his picture will inspire others to serve the community.

"The younger kids growing up seeing Matt's photo up on the Wall of Fame thinking 'hey, maybe this is something I want to do and give back to my community,' and hopefully we can get the young men and women to join the fire department as we always need good young men and women to serve and protect our communities." said Lee Dunham, Matthew Porcari's uncle.

Porcari was also a member of the high school baseball team that won a state championship.

55 portraits now hang on the Wall of Fame.
