SeaWolves Bite Montero, B-Mets Fall 11-4

BINGHAMTON, NY  The Erie SeaWolves tagged Rafael Montero for ten runs on ten hits and handed the Binghamton Mets an 11-4 loss on Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium. Francisco Pena collected three hits and drove in two runs in the losing effort.

The B-Mets were in control for the first three innings. Binghamton grabbed the lead in the second against Erie starter Victor Larez. Blake Forsythe led off the inning with a double to left and came home when Pena smoked an RBI double down the left field line.

After cruising through the first three innings, Montero hit a major speed bump in the fourth. The SeaWolves plated five runs on five hits and took advantage of a fielding error to take a commanding four-run lead. Tyler Collins supplied an RBI double to tie the game, James McCann added a run-scoring single and Marcus Lemon capped the rally with a two-run triple.

Tyler Collins added to the lead with a solo home run in the fifth and the SeaWolves blew the game open with four more scores in the seventh. Ramon Cabrera delivered the crushing blow with a three-run single.

Binghamton scratched back with two runs against Larez in the seventh, his final inning. Pena started the inning with a double and scored on Joe Bonfes groundout. Alonzo Harris launched an 0-1 pitch over the left field wall for his third homer of the season.

The SeaWolves plated their final run of the game against reliever Adam Kolarek in the eighth. Pena capped his three-hit day with an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning against Erie reliever Tyler Clark.

Montero (3-2) suffered his second straight loss. The righty allowed a career-high ten runs (seven earned) and ten hits while striking out five. Larez (4-0) racked up his fourth straight win, allowing three runs on seven hits over a season-best seven innings.
