The man convicted of seven charges for his shooting of Ithaca police officer Anthony Augustine, is now charged with an assault inside the Tompkins County Jail--in which a corrections officer was injured.
23-year-old Jamel Booker of Ithaca was arrested Tuesday, following the incident at the jail. In his recent trial concerning the shooting of officer Augustine, Booker was convicted of all but the most serious charge against him, attempted murder.
Booker claimed he never intended to hurt anyone, but fired the shot because he was in fear of his life, as police were pursuing him. Augustine was shot back in October of 2012.
