Layoffs at Interconnect Technologies
4/24/2013 (Updated 7:44:13 PM)There are unanswered questions Wednesday night, concerning how many workers remain at Endicott Interconnect Technologies and why, if there was a sizable lay-off, there was no public notice of it.
According to an article in the Press and Sun Bulletin, just 600 workers remain at the plant.
But 1,100 were reported working there as recently at this past November in an annual report from the Broome County Industrial Development Agency.
Companies the size of E.I. are required to give public notice within 90 days of layoffs involving 250 or more full time workers.
But the so-called warn act does not apply if the layoffs are spread out over a period of time.
Fox 40 has learned that the Department of Labor will be looking into whether the rules for compliance were met.
Fox 40 News has calls in to E.I., but they have not yet been returned.
The Department of Labor has offices in Owego and Binghamton, ready to assist workers who might have been laid off.
Long time CEO Jay McNamara retired earlier this month from the company.
James Matthews Junior has been named the new CEO.
