Officials Discuss Plans For Hooper Road Bridge
4/11/2013 (Updated 10:50:53 PM)County officials have submitted a plan to the State Department of Public Works of how they would like to see the Hooper Road Bridge rehabilitated.
Thursday, at a public information meeting, the Broome County Department of Public Works discussed plans for the bridge which is in need of some repairs.
Officials have determined accelerated bridge construction would be the best option--that's a construction method in which pieces of the bridge are made off-site, then brought in.
"This alternative will have the least impact to the traveling public. We will have to completely close the bridge but it will only be for a two-three week period. If we use conventional construction, it would be a partial closure but it would be 4-5 months," said Leslie Boulton, deputy commissioner of Broome County Department of Public Works.
80 percent of the funding will come from the federal government, 15 from the state and five percent from the County. They hope to begin the project in 2014.
