BU Celebrates International Women's Day

VESTAL -- In preparation for International Women's Day, students and members of the community were given the chance to learn about the role that women play in the workplace and society on a global level.
 
Consul General Koula Sophianou from the Republic of Cyprus celebrated the contributions that women make for a better and more peaceful world.  She says that from female politicians to women in the household, no contribution is too small.  With some countries still struggling with gender equality, Sophianou says education on the issue starts at a young age.

"Women have to really understand their capabilities.  But at the same time, men need to be educated that men and women are equal and when we talk about gender equality, it involves both [genders]," she said.

Sophianou says that she enjoys talking to college students because this is their world and the older generation should learn from and listen to the younger generation.
