Budget Talks Resume for Union-Endicott School District
2/25/2013 (Updated 11:05:41 PM)
While no more layoffs or drastic cuts in programs are anticipated--such as occured last year-- what the district can hold the line on depends on the amount of state funding that will be available and that won't be determined until a later date.
Both the superintendent and parents agree that certain programs are critical.
Says superintendent Suzanne McLeod, "When are things going to turn around... I'm really getting concerned about the needs of the students and some of those things for example are the additional reading and math support after school. I would love to be able to do that again."
Amy Winans, who is the parent of a fourth grader, added, "There's definitely other areas where we all need to work hard to trim the fat. We need to take away things besides the opportunities for our kids that are vital."
McLeod urges voters in Broome County to make sure they come out and vote on the school budget on May 21.
