B-Sens punish Pens 5-1
2/12/2013 (Updated 10:42:22 PM)
B-Sens forward Shane Prince kicked off the scoring by slipping the puck past goaltender Jeff Zatkoff at 5:29 of the first period, assisted by Pat Cannone and Cole Schneider. Shortly after, Penguins forward Adam Payerl collided with goaltender Nathan Lawson in the Binghamton end. Lawson would leave the game and Robin Lehner stepped in to take over. Derek Grant helped put the B-Sens up 2-0 with a goal at 10:29. Mark Borowiecki and Corey Cowick each assisted.
Wilkes-Barre replaced Zatkoff with Brad Thiessen at the start of the second period, but the B-Sens continued to pour on the offense. David Dzuirzynski scored Binghamtons thirteenth shorthanded goal of the season on a breakaway at 11:56 to give the B-Sens a 3-0 lead. Pat Cannone added his sixth goal of the season at the 16:09 mark, with Eric Gryba and Hugh Jessiman drawing the assists. Jack Downing rounded out the period as he contributed to the B-Sens special teams by ringing a power play goal at 17:04, courtesy of Dustin Gazley and Chris Wideman.
The Penguins had the only goal in the third as Dominik Uher put one past Lehner on the power play at 3:35, to set the score at 5-1.
Lawson turned aside all three shots he faced before leaving the game. Lehner's performance, which consisted of making 24 saves on 25 shots, earned the goaltender his 18th win of the season. Zatkoff stopped nine of 11 shots. Thiessen turned aside 18 of 21 shots faced through the final two periods of play.
The B-Sens return to action on Friday, Feb. 15 as they host the Syracuse Crunch. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
