Hooper Road Rehabilitation
1/30/2013 (Updated 11:23:42 PM)
The public has weighed in on two possible rehabilitation projects for the Hooper road bridge over Route 17c in Endwell.
One option is to leave one lane open while crews complete construction which would take 4-5 months.
However, the public was in favor of an option that would completely close the bridge, but for a shorter period of time.
"The other option is something called ABC which is accelerated bridge construction and that is using prefabricated things like deck pieces that they actually bring onto the sight and we would have to completely close the bridge 100%. But, the impact would only be a 2-4 week period as oppose4d to 4-5 months," says Leslie Bolton, Deputy Commissioner of Engineering, Broome County DPW.
Bolton says the project would be completed during the summer of 2014. The current estimated cost is 1.2 million dollars. 80 percent of the money would come from federal aid, 15 from the state and 5 from the county.
