Bearcat men fall to Terriers

VESTAL, N.Y.Boston University (8-9, 2-2 AE) shot 55 percent and used a 22-2 second-half run to pull away from visiting Binghamton (2-15, 0-4 AE) in an America East game Saturday afternoon from Case Gym. The Terriers put four players in double figures, drained 12 three-pointers and totaled 18 assists on 30 field goals.

Ahead 55-47 with 12:06 left in the game, Boston embarked on the devastating run as the Bearcats went scoreless for nearly five minutes and managed just two field goals during the pivotal seven-minute stretch. Binghamton shot just 31 percent from the field.

Were fighting and the will is there ... but they were better than us today, head coach Tommy Dempsey said. Boston played terrific. They shared the ball and shot a great percentage. We did everything we could to get them out of rhythm but theyre playing really good right now. They were able to expose us a little with the talent on their roster.

Senior guard Jimmy Gray led the Bearcats with 17 points - 12 of which came in the first half. Freshman guard Jordan Reed added 14 points and junior guard Rayner Moquete chipped in eight points and four assists.

The Bearcats hit just 6-of-22 to start the game but thanks primarily to Gray, trailed only by two, 23-21, with 5:30 left in the first half. Boston rattled off a 14-2 run, however, and took a 42-33 lead into intermission.

Reed connected on a pair of field goals in a 37-second span early in the second half to pull the Bearcats to within seven, 44-37. But the Terriers responded with eight straight points to keep Binghamton at bay.

Boston was led by D.J. Irving, who tallied 16 points.

Binghamton next plays at Vermont on Wednesday.

Gray and Bostons John Papale (14 pts.) were named the America East Players of the Game.
