Has Binghamton Water Been Tainted by Gas Drilling?

Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan says he will continue to test the water from the Susquehanna River to see if fracking in Pennsylvania is causing any effects up stream.

Ryan says he is also pushing the state to start gathering data to determine what long-term health effects might be associated with fracking, and on how the practice taking place over the border in Pennsylvania could be affecting Binghamton.

"We have an opportunity to study this now and I'm going to ask the Department of Health to do an in-depth study of what the impacts of drilling outside of New York State might be having on us," said Ryan.

Ryan says he thinks fracking in Pennsylvania is too new of an industry to have created any measurable pollution in the Susquehanna yet, but worries if it will in the future.
