Meet the Sens: Martin St. Pierre - 10/25/2009
M ... S... P...Martin St. Pierre has been money all year. The B-Sens leader scorer has ten points in nine games, so far, but realizes that the team has to do well as a whole to win more games.
St. Pierre: "Points are coming, but obviously you have to win as a team to be successful. Obviously we want to win, and we want to make the playoffs, and a bad start to the season is not what we wanted. We still have a few things to crack down, but divisional points are very key for us."
But a key for St. Pierre to come to Binghamton was chance to play for his hometown team in Ottawa.
St. Pierre: "I grew up watching the Senators, so it's definitely a dream come true to play in the organization. Obviously my goal is to play up in Ottawa, but I'll do whatever I can to get up there, as far with Binghamton here."
Oddly enough St. Pierre will be able to play up in Canada's capital city sooner rather than later. The B-Sens will play one of their home games on the parent club's home ice.
St. Pierre: "A lot of ticket requests, and all of that stuff. It'll definitely be a dream come true to play in front of the hometown. They saw me in juniors, but it will be another thing to play at the Scotia Bank Place in front of the home crowd."
Like most kids in Canada St. Pierre grew up with the game all around him.
St. Pierre: "There's not much to do around the surroundings in Ottawa. Hockey is in your blood; and whether it's your parents, or uncles, they're all playing hockey. So, you’re pretty much brought up to play hockey ... and it's matter of the atmosphere in Ottawa, and it's a great hockey city."
Another city close to Ottawa is the home of Denis Hamel. The two have been good friends, and the Hammer played a big role in getting St. Pierre to come to Binghamton.
St. Pierre: "I've known Hammer for awhile, we live 45 minutes apart, and we became great friends through mutual friends. It was definitely something we talked about last summer, and with the amount of players they had up in Ottawa I knew that he was going to be here, and why not? He's a great player, a great leader, and great friend of mine. So, I put two-and-two together, and got a contract here."
