Sindelar and Hulbert: Best Friends Forever

While they may be older than the generation using abbreviations and acronyms for everything, Joey Sindelar and Mike Hulbert are BFFs, or Best Friends Forever.  They both grew up in the Horseheads/Elmira area and hung out all the time and shared many laughs.  Hulbert says they drifted apart in college, but then were fortunate enough to play for years together on the PGA and now Champions Tour.

While Sindelar has always been a fan favorite at En-Joie, Hulbert will certainly have his fair share of followers this weekend.  But, it wasn't a guarantee that he would be playing in the first place.

Hulbert applied for an exemption into the field and Sindelar said he couldn't bring himself to call his friend to ask if he was in.  Hulbert got the call from Tournament Director John Karedes inviting him into the tournament but didn't hear from Sindelar until after the Pro-Am pairings list came out.  That's when Sindelar saw Hulbert's name on the list and immediately made the much anticipated, excited phone call.

Hulbert says that he's happy for the chance to play with Sindelar again, but he's glad they're not paired together on Friday.  He hopes they're games are similar enough to warrant a pairing on Saturday or Sunday, though.

Hulbert tees off at 10:31 on Friday with Scott Simpson and Ben Bates.  Sindelar tees off at 12:32 with Morris Hatalsky and Jose Coceras.
