Preview of Ukraninan Festival

Preparations for the St.John's Ukranian Festival have been underway for months. Saturday its show time as the 87th annual festival gets underway.
   
Organizers say they're expecting big crowds this weekend at the church's complex in Johnson City.  They're will be plenty of entertainment including folk dancers and live music. There will also be games for the kids as well as arts and crafts.  Food choices range from the American burger and hot dog to the traditional Eastern European delicacies that dozens of volunteers have been busy preparing.
 
"Our food is our famous halapsi, that's our meat and rice wrapped in cabbage and its delicious. We also have perohe. We have potato and cabbage perohe and our potato salad that many people come for ." said Pam Scannell, Event Organizer.

Scannell says they enjoy sharing their Ukranian heritage with the community.  The festival wraps up early Sunday evening.
