Bench advises kids - Books over Baseball

Before Wednesday's ribbon cutting ceremony for Maine-Endwell's new baseball field, Baseball Hall of Famers Johnny Bench, Goose Gossage, and Joe Morgan talked to the Spartans baseball team as well as other players from around the area about the game of baseball and life.

When asked if he would like to see his kids play baseball, Bench responded by saying he would rather have them "develop a microchip and be player/owner."  Bench emphasized the low percentage and unlikely odds that a kid will make it as a big league player, encouraging the student-athletes to never give up on their education.
