Binghamton Begins Flood Wall Inspections

The City of Binghamton will soon find out if it's flood walls and levee system are up to par as inspections began Wednesday.

The city missed a 2012 Army Corps of Engineers deadline to check the piping which is required by the Department of Environmental Conservation.

The inspection includes video inspection of the flood wall conduits. Mayor Rich David is looking to ensure the city does not miss any critical future deadlines.

"Well it's very important because this community has been devastated not once but twice by two massive floods in a five year period. That takes a significant tole on your flood wall and levee system," said David.

The inspection will take about two weeks to complete. The estimated  55 thousand dollar project  will be paid for by FEMA.
