Military Justice Improvement Act Receives Bipartisan Consent

A bill proposed by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand to reform how the military handles sexual assault cases is heading for the senate floor:

The bill was denied on Monday, but received unanimous bipartisan consent tonight.

The Military Justice Improvement Act calls for the end of sexual assault in the military, and harsher consequences for offenders.

According to a report released by the Defense Department earlier this year, 26,000 counts of sexual misconduct happened within the military during 2012.

The bill is set for Senate floor action in March.
