Tornado, Raiders take home STAC Titles one year after Finals losses

VESTAL -- The Binghamton University Events Center hosted two STAC Title Games Friday night and looking at the scoreboard at the end of each game there would be no doubt who is the best boys and girls teams in the conference.

The Horseheads Blue Raiders took home the girls title by taking down the Owego Free Academy Indians 59-29.  Jen LaViola scored a game-high 17 points for Horseheads.  Last year, the Blue Raiders were on the other end of this game after losing to Oneonta.  This year, they take home the first STAC Title in program history.  The Raiders draw a bye into the Section IV Class AA Finals and play the winner of U-E and Binghamton.

On the boys side, despite seeing a halftime lead disappear, the Norwich Purple Tornado stormed back to defeat the Union-Endicott Tigers 85-67.  Michael Sutton led the Tornado with a game-high 23 points.  Like Horseheads, Norwich also lost this game one year ago to Maine-Endwell, but get the title this year to add to their Stop-DWI Holiday Classic Trophy earned in December.  Norwich draws a first round Sectional bye in Class B, it gets the winner of Whitney Point and Chenango Valley.
