New Owego Political Party: No Comment on Mayor's DWI

No comment Monday night from members of Owego's newest political party on the current Mayor's DWI charge.

The Tioga County Sheriff's say Kevin Millar is charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while ability impaired and having no front plate. The arrest happened at 2:20 in the morning on Sunday on Temple Street in the Village. In a statement on his Facebook page, Millar apologized for the arrest, saying he made a serious mistake. He added his drinking has not impaired his performance as mayor nor will he let it. He said he hopes the incident won't deter his continuing to serve the residents of the Village of Owego.

However, Millar will now face a new challenger in March's election, business owner Lisa Curatolo.

Curatolo had no comment on the arrest and said she won't be focusing on it during her campaign.  Curatolo is running for mayor  under the newly formed Positive Change Party who held a meet and greet at the Cellar Restaurant Monday evening. Another slate of candidates is running under the party's banner as trustee candidates.

"I felt like we needed to get in there and figure out what was going on and get the Village back where it needed to be. Get it running in a positive direction," said Lisa Curatolo.

"I hear a lot of negative comments about the image of Owego and I hope I can take part in clearing that end of it up and also help my neighborhood that was badly impacted by the flood," said Michael Phelps, running for third ward trustee.

The election is March 18th from noon until 9 pm at the Owego Central Fire Station.
