Department of Transportation Prepares for Storm
2/4/2014 (Updated 6:47:36 PM)With the possibility of snowfall reaching double digits by Wednesday the New York State Department of Transportation is in preparation mode for the big storm.
According to DOT officials there will be a maximum effort with more than 30 plows on the road.
The DOT will go into 24 hour operation for the duration of the storm with workers pulling 12 hour shifts.
If you are forced to travel it's important for drivers to make sure vehicles are completely cleaned off.
"See and be seen be able to be see and be seen. And be careful out there. Understand that there are other people on the road. Don't make any sudden movements and slow down," said Public Information Officer of the NYSDOT David Hamburg.
The salt barn in Broome County can hold 3,000 tons of salt and expects to go through 300 tons for each 12 hour shift.
