Tips to Save on Your Heating Bill
1/3/2014 (Updated 10:22:21 PM)Some of you may be inclined to crank the thermostats up as those temperatures drop... but there are a couple tips to help save on that utility bill.
NYSEG officials suggest not setting your thermostat higher than 70 degrees. Clean out furnace filters once a month. And set up draft stoppers at the bottom of doorways to rooms in your home that are not heated.
"If you can turn the thermostat down at night when you're sleeping that's a good thing, but at the same time you've got to keep in mind you don't want your pipes freezing and if there are elderly folks or infants at home you can't turn the heat back too much either," said Manager of Corporate Communications Clay Ellis.
Ellis reminds property owners to check their heating systems annually. He says you should install carbon monoxide detectors.. and keep
flammable items away from space heaters.
