Nickelodeon Director Stops by SUNY Broome

SUNY Broome students with a knack for snappy dialogue and vivid characters got a chance to impress a network TV executive on Friday.

Karen Kirkland, writing director at Nickelodeon, gave a presentation  designed to prepare applicants for the Nickelodeon writing program.

It's a year-long "bootcamp" for writers interested in working for the channel. Students learned about proper script structure, page length, formatting and the importance of having driven characters.

"Well I went from 79 degrees to 19 degree all because I  believe that the talent that we're looking for is here. So for me, it was an important trip to help and inspire and share the vision of where Nickelodeon is going," said Writing Program Executive Director of Nickelodeon Karen Kirkland.
Kirkland says that every script needs three things, a premise, outline, and story.
