Task Force to Crack Down on Workers Comp. Fraud

Broome County is creating a task force to crack down on Workers Compensation fraud.

The group is made up of County Executive Debbie Preston, District Attorney Gerald Mollen, and others.

It will investigate current and new claims for worker's compensation to make sure those claims are legitimate.

According to the county, Workers Compensation claims cost Broome County more than $2 million per year, with fraud having the potential to cost the county thousands.

"I feel it's important to the tax payer to do more investigation from the start and we make sure that everything, all our 'I's are dotted and our 't's are crossed before moving forward. That's my job," said County Executive Debbie Preston.

To report fraud call the Risk and Insurance Department at 778-2402.
