New Life for Brownfields in Norwich

There will be new life for brownfields in Norwich thanks to a state grant.

The city is receiving $90,000 to help fix up a 591-acre area, with 33 vacant and brownfield sites in the city's downtown and older residential areas.

Norwich's Mayor Joseph Maiurano said the money will be used to help study how much interest there may be from businesses to develop in the area.

"Instead of a hit or miss... they'll pin point with the market study what is needed to have a more accessible downtown," sid Maiurano.

Among the sites being considered for development is a plot on the Tops Plaza and housing on State Street.
