Fire Safety Expo Saturday

October is fire prevention month and the Vestal Fire Department is working to prevent  future disasters by informing the areas youngest residents how they can stay safe.

First responders  will be at the Lowes  in Vestal Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.  with a fire safety trailer.  Kids can walk through and learn how they can prevent kitchen fires and what to do in an emergency,  something fire officials say they should keep in mind 365 days a year.

"Don't be lackadaisical.  You've got to think fire safety in your household all the time.  You know, 365 days a year.  Not just one week or one month," said Ken Fortier, Fire Prevention Officer for the Vestal Fire Department.

Fortier says now that it's fall and time to change your clocks, you also should change the batteries in your smoke detectors.
