Senator Gillibrand Endorses Plan to Add Eco-Friendly Jobs
8/28/2013 (Updated 9:23:29 PM)It was just Tuesday that Senator Schumer was in Delaware County pushing to create more jobs through a call center, and most recently on Wednesday Senator Gillibrand was at SUNY Delhi to help create Eco-friendly jobs.
The senator has endorsed the school's Energy Efficient Subsurface Disposal and Irrigation Project which will redirect water waste to man-made ponds where the campus will re-use the water as an irrigation source.
The plan will allow the Delhi Water Waste Treatment Plant to treat 200,000 more gallons of water a day and spark the expansion of two major manufacturers in the village. Joel Smith, Vice President of College relations at SUNY Delhi says it will help boost the village's economy.
"What has emerged is this critical need for our two major employers to expand and this is the vehicle that will allow them to do that and keep good high paying jobs in our area," he said.
An additional 2 million dollars is needed to fund the 4 million dollar plan. The senator will act as a spokesperson to raise money for the project. Officials say they hope to begin construction in the Spring.
