BU Students Head Back to Class

The academic calendar began for Binghamton University's 16,000 students on Monday.  Included in that total are 2,600 freshman, 1,100 transfer students and almost 1,100 new graduate students, the largest such group in the school's history. As part of the SUNY 2020 plan, the school is adding 2,000 students from 2012-2015.

"Getting up at 7 o'clock in the morning was a little easier than I thought it would be for some reason. I've only had one class so far and so far I love it. It's Italian and I think it's going to be a lot of fun," said sophomore transfer student Dave Caya.

"This year I hope to go out a lot on weekends and have a good time as I did last year. Also I'm taking orgo (organic chemistry) so I hope to be able to live through that and pass at least," said sophomore Evan Rubin.

"Orgo" is organic chemistry for the uninitiated.  About 35 percent of BU students are from Upstate New York; 7 percent are from Broome and Tioga counties, 22 percent are from Long Island and 19 percent from New York City.
