Focusing on Research

With an expansion of the student population and opening of the downtown business incubator slated over the next few years, the local economy could be in line for a big boost from Binghamton University.

But just how is current research at the school effecting the economy both locally and beyond? BU's vice president of research says the school is focusing much of it's work on alternative energy and energy efficiency, all while students get invaluable experience.

"What is equally important is our students. The fact that they get and experience of working with industries and then they have opportunities to work either locally or across the state or the country," said Vice President of Research at Binghamton University Dr. Bahgat Sammakia.

75 percent of BU's current research is based on health care, energy systems integration, packaging, and information security.
