Expected July 4th Travel

If you're planning on traveling by car this weekend, there are a few things you might want to keep in mind.

President of AAA in Southern New York cautions driver's to do a vehicle check before making any long trips, and allow a little extra time for construction.

The auto club says the number of Americans traveling a distance of more than 50 miles from home has increased slightly by one percent compared to last year.

"Despite gas prices being up slightly in comparison to last year with the holiday falling on a Thursday that extends the weekend which encourages more people to take time off, you'll get a five day holiday by only taking one day off from work," said President of AAA of Southern New York, Richard David.

AAA Travel expects more than 40 million Americans to travel this holiday weekend.
