Flooding Closes Hickories Park

Officials in Owego are taking precautionary measures following the heavy rains.

As of 8PM Tuesday night, they closed Hickories Park until further notice due to the potential rise of the Susquehanna River at the entrance to the park.

Before the closure,  a few families were taking advantage of the break in the rain and one seventh grader says, the weather hasn't dampened his spirits.

"...pretty much was riding four-wheelers out in the rain, getting all muddy and then coming in and playing video games," said Chris Kunze, Owego resident.

However, his cousins said they would be  disappointed to see rain cancel the fireworks.

On Wednesday, the Concert in the Park series is expected to return to the park, and a fireworks show is also planned for 9:30PM Wednesday. No word yet on whether that will be postponed.
