Hundreds Running in Red
6/19/2013 (Updated 11:00:19 PM)ENDWELL -- What began as a dare is now an annual tradition in it's 16th year.
The Red Dress Run raises money for the Crime Victims' Assistance Center. Hundreds gathered wearing red dresses and a few accessories to run a three mile race through the streets of Endwell. Organizers joke that the women are more at home in red dresses but it doesn't take too much convincing to get the guys involved.
"Look around, it's not that hard at all," said Race Director Karen Fennie. "The only thing we ask is that people wear a red dress but people go another step. As you can see there are hats and gloves and purses and jewelry and wigs and makeup... everything."
"As soon as my three children found out and my wife, they started laughing and said absolutely. So here we are today, I tried on some dresses and found one that fit," said Joe Monforte, a first time participant.
The first race was run by 40 runners. More than one hundred people in red dresses ran this year's event.
