More Data Needed in Deciding Future of the Endicott Police Department

The Village of Endicott is taking the next step in determining how and if to merge its police department with the Broome County Sheriff's Office.

The Village of Endicott Board voted Tuesday night to continue the
discussion to combine forces.

Deputy Mayor Dave Baker says a committee will be formed, composed of  Endicott Police Officers, sheriff's deputies, and a number of local citizens.

They plan to meet within the next couple weeks.

"Further dig into it, all the perimeters. What's the cost, how the structure is set up, what are the duties of individual officers under the sheriffs, being under E-P-D current management structure or, are there any differences?" said Dave Baker, Deputy Mayor of Endicott.

Baker says if the Endicott Police Department does merge with the sheriff's department.

It would allow two to three more officers to be on the streets of Endicott.
