Volunteers Honored For Hurricane Relief Efforts

Wednesday at the Oakdale Mall- local agencies came together to honor the volunteers that donated their time helping clean up after Hurricane Sandy.
Volunteers from the Red Cross, Salvation Army and area fire departments were recognized for their efforts.

One couple says they joined the Salvation Army when they retired.

We just felt that we had been blessed in our life and we wanted to spend our retirement coming alongside other people at some the worst times of their lives, like trying to bring some hope and comfort and encouragement," said Myrtle Whitcomb, volunteer for the Salvation Army.

Fallen Owego Firefighter Matthew Porcari was also honored posthumously for his Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts.
