Cascun Farm Ribbon Cutting

GREENE -- Local farmers are helping spread local flavors with a newly opened business.

Today the Greene community celebrated the opening of the butcher block and farm market, owned by the family of Cascun farm.  The owners say the store allows them to sell a wider variety of products, including meats, jams, breads, and treats from other area farms.  The owners also make trips to New York City to deliver food to dozens of restaurants, stores, and schools.

"There's such an amount of farm land in New York state that people are realizing we don't need to buy this from Kansas or Texas, we can get this right here in our own state, it's healthier, it's less travel time, and it supports the growth of our own state," said co-owner Andrea Cascun.

The store was funded through grants from the rural initiative fund to the Southern Tier Regional Economic Development Council.
