Cyber Safety In A Digital Age
4/16/2013 (Updated 11:02:17 PM)Keeping students safe in the Cyber Age-- that was the message Tuesday night at Vestal High School.
The district invited social worker Celia Clement in to speak with parents on how to keep kids safe in an age of digital technology. Parents spoke out saying they are role models and feel hypocritical when they hold back their kids from technology. Clement says that when it comes to technology in kids lives, the goal is to create a healthy.
"What's most important is that parents keep communication open with their children and that they don't come off too authoritative with them," said Celia Clement, social worker. "There is a balance between letting kids develop their own independence and having parents be on top of what's going on."
Parents also brought up concerns of whether allow their children to have cell phones because they can be distractions. However, many said that after Monday's events in Boston, they would want a way to be able to contact their child immediately.
