Binghamton Women's Lacrosse Looks To Defend First Ever Conference Title
From the hunters, to the hunted; that is the role change this season for the Binghamton Bearcats Women's lacrosse team as they look to defend their first ever America East Conference championship.
In 2024, Binghamton would have a very challenging schedule at the beginning of the year as the Bearcats would go 4-5 in their first nine games. After that the Bearcats would thrive in conference going 5-1 and would enter the playoffs on a six game winning streak. That winning streak would help propel the Bearcats to their first ever conference title and first appearance in program history in the NCAA tournament. Head Coach Stephanie Allen spoke on now taking the next step to continue to be successful.
"Just staying hungry and humble," said Allen. "We know what it takes now and we have to be disciplined in the process and make sure that we continue to improve and get better every day."
A couple of changes to the roster including two of their top three point leaders graduating, however eleven freshman will be coming in to help continue the production for this Bearcat squad who have been in the conference championship each of the last two seasons. Senior attack Olivia Muscolino spoke to the media on the impact of the previous senior class and how its now time for the current leadership group to continue building on the successful winning culture.
"I feel like the group from last year definitely built a strong foundation for us and we've just been building off of that, especially with the new freshmen coming in," said Muscolino. " I feel like we're just going to keep working hard game by game, play by play, and we'll see what we can do".
One of the more impressive stats for the Bearcats is not only going 10-2 in conference over the last two seasons but also having continued success here at home where they have been 10-4 over the last two years. Senior midfielder Angelina Suau says that the team has their best results at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
"I think we play our best at home and especially in that Bearcat weather," said Suau. "As we saw in the American East we played good in bad weather and really in any weather because we practice and prepare in practice like how we should in the game".
Binghamton will open up their season on Saturday, February 8 at Villanova and have their home opener on the following Wednesday taking on Colgate at 3 P.M.
