Brooklyn Man Sentenced for 2023 Crash
A Brooklyn man has been sentenced after a 2023 crash in Delaware County that left three people injured.
According to the Delaware County District Attorney, Andras Kasuba was sentenced to time served (about eight months) and five years of felony probation supervision. This sentence was handed down after Kasuba pleaded guilty in December to the charges of Aggravated Vehicular Assault and Driving While Intoxicated.
In March 2023, a two-vehicle crash occurred on Highway 26 just north of Gregory Hollow Road. Kasuba was one of the drivers involved. Three people had to be extracted by helicopter due to the seriousness of their injuries. Kasuba was intoxicated at the time of the crash and had a blood alcohol content of 2.5 times the legal limit. The D.A says an investigation determined Kasuba caused the crash by crossing over the yellow line.
According to the D.A., Kasuba was arraigned in May 2023 by the Town of Colchester and afterwards, he fled Delaware County. He was also the subject of a deportation proceeding, in which he failed to appear. He was eventually tracked to Brooklyn and arrested and arraigned in Delaware County Court in June 2024.
The D.A says as part of a negotiated plea agreement, Kasuba admitted to driving intoxicated and injuring the three people.
