New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Awards $342,500to Municipalities for Zero-Emission Vehicles
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, or DEC, recently announced that they have awarded $342,500 to 17 municipalities across the state to purchase zero-emission vehicles as part of the DEC Municipal ZEV Rebate Program.
Out of the total grants, $15,000 dollars was awarded to the City of Binghamton to purchase three battery electric vehicles.
The addition of these vehicles helps to reduce greenhouse gas pollution, advancing New York's mission of mitigating climate change.
Since it's launch in 2016, the ZEV rebate program has awarded a total of more than $1.8 million to municipalities for electric vehicle purchases.
"When someone's driving and they see a vehicle with the city seal, they're also going to see that it's a zero emission vehicle. So I think it's a symbol to residents, to businesses, to anyone who looks at the city of Binghamton, that we're a forward thinking city, that this is a cost conscious decision as well, that we're able to get grants to pay for these vehicles," said Mayor Kraham.
