Norwich Man Facing Charges After Fleeing from Police Sunday Morning
A Norwich man is facing several charges after he fled from police early Sunday morning in Norwich.
According to Norwich Police, at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, a traffic stop was attempted on a vehicle being operated by Cody Amidon of Norwich. Police say Amidon was a NYS parolee who was in possession of a handgun.
Amidon failed to comply and led police on a pursuit over several blocks which ended in the parking lot of Cobbler Square Apartments. Amidon was eventually blocked in in the parking lot, and police say he refused to exit the vehicle. He then struck a police patrol vehicle with his own car.
Amidon was eventually taken into custody, and while police were taking inventory of the vehicle, a loaded .22-caliber handgun was found under the driver's seat. Amidon was charged with the following:
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd degree
- Reckless Endangerment
- Resisting Arrest
- Criminal Mischief
- Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer
