Greater Binghamton Disc Golf Club Hosts Sixth Annual Ice Bowl
The Greater Ginghamton Disc Golf Club (GGDGC) hosted its sixth annual Ice Bowl at Campville Commons today part of a nationwide event celebrating its 37th year. This year, the GGDGC is raising money for the Tioga County rural ministry food pantry.
"The food bank told us this year they've seen a 38% increase in the number of people that are asking for assistance this time of year so I asked them if it makes a big difference in the community," said event director Rick Powell.
The event drew 36 participants from all over New York and Pennsylvania, many of whom saw it as a chance to have fun while supporting a great cause.
Carletta Darling, who travelled from Remsem with her friends, said, "It was a great event to support charity. We love to play disc golf. So it's a good way to bring the disc golf community together to help support the food bank, which is important."
Thanks to the generosity of both players and donors, the event raised around $6,000. Powell noted that over the six years GGDGC has hosted the Ice Bowl, the total raised now approaches $30,000.
Powell encourages the community to visit the Tioga County rural ministry website to continue supporting the cause.
