The Village of Endicott to Honor Local Veterans With Banners on Major Streets
The Village will be launching their "Saluting our Hometown Heroes Award" program.
It will honor current and veteran service members who live in Endicott, Endwell, or the town of Union.
The banners will be displayed on Washington avenue and Main street for two years, being brought up and down as needed, and will feature the service-person's name, photo, and military branch.
The program is a partnership between the Village and the VFW Post 1449, the American Legion Posts 82 and 1700, and Illuminations Holiday Lighting.
Dave Williams, the American Legion Commander of Post 1700, believes the banners will honor service members of the area.
"We're going to let them be known throughout the next two years. And I think it's it's makes us very proud here as a community. And we're very proud of the people that have organized this, the VFW, American Legion Post 82 and American Legion Post 1700," Williams said.
Williams also wanted to thank Gary Denmon of the Sons of the American Legion, who helped facilitate the communications between the Village and the American Legion.
The deadline to submit to qualify for a banner is March 1st, and a link to the form can be found on the Village of Endicott's Facebook page.
Forms are also available at the American Legion Post 1700 in Endicott.
