Windsor Central High School Students Honored for Agriculture Work
Windsor Central High School's chapter of the Future Farmers of America received the New York State Agricultural Society's chapter of the year award, honoring the work they have done for the Windsor community.
Much of the work coming out of the 6.7 acre land lab across the street from the high school, producing vegetables, fruit, and flowers.
The New York State Agricultural Society honored them for three farm stands placed in low-income areas, something Tina Miner-James, the FFA Advisor at Windsor Central High School, believes encouraged the students throughout the year.
"This year, our mission was to grow over 1,000 pounds to be donated to farm stands that are at three low income housing areas. So the students really grabbed a hold of that idea with gusto," James said.
The chapter started with only 6 members in 2018, and has now grown to over 190 members.
The FFA is also expanding the branch to Windsor Central Middle School, with this being the first year they are participating.
