Binghamton resident and President/CEO of the food bank of the southern tier, Mark Bordeau has been appointed by Governor Hochul to serve on the SUNY Upstate Medical University Council.

The food bank of the southern tier serves nearly 31,000 people weekly in Broome, Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga, and Tompkins counties, covering nearly 4,000 square miles.

The Suny Upstate Medical University Council is an advisory board for Upstate President Mantosh Dewan.

Bordeau said he's excited to start as chair of Feeding New York State which supports food banks.

"I've spent my career addressing the connection between food security and health. And this council allows me to take the work to the next level, which I'm thrilled about. And representing the Southern tier and advocating for better health is fantastic. So I'm honored and I'm thrilled to get started," said Bordeau.

“Having known Mark Bordeau for many years, I jumped at the chance to suggest his name to Governor Hochul for this appointment,” said Assemblywoman Lupardo of the 123rd Assembly District.

She continued, "His professional experience and commitment to public health will be a valuable addition to the Upstate Council. It is also important to have a voice from the Southern Tier represented, given the many specialty health care interventions Upstate provides to our area.”

Bordeau's qualifications include being a graduate of Empire State College, holding certification as a school nutrition specialist and being a Lead NY Fellowship from Cornell University.
