Broome-Tioga Board of Cooperative Educational Services Education Center hosted the second day of Engineering Days, this time having local middle school students participate.

Continuing the theme of creating a Rube Goldberg machine, the students crafted a complex path for a ball to hit a party popper.

P-Tech Engineering Teacher Matt Hamilton-Jones hoped his students used the event to learn not all seemingly simple problems have easy solutions.

"It comes down to problem solving. You know, they problem solve and they have to take something in, and they have a party popper at the end. They have to pop the party popper. So basically, problem solving with teamwork," Hamilton-Jones said.

Problems students like Chenango Valley Middle School student Lyla Houser worked to solve.

"I think it really helps being in a team environment and learning to like, pick and choose. Also would like trial and error, seeing like what works, what doesn't, and also kind of letting me dip my toes into like if I want to go into this when I'm older," Houser said.

The final day of Engineering Days will take place tomorrow, with local elementary students taking up the challenge.
